Miniature schnauzers are considered to be smart, loyal and have excellent training ability.
Barking and Exercise
Barking – When you hear a bark, you’ll instantly recognise the unique, sharp bark. Thankfully schnauzers are not known as yapper. They do bark like all dogs it’s a part of their makeup but they bark for reason.
Exercise – Schnauzers adapt to apartment life really well and do not require a huge amount of space. They love to explore so a good walk daily or every other day is sufficient.
Grooming
Clipping – As a non-shedding dog schnauzers will need to be groomed every 6 – 8 weeks, you can do this yourself or find a professional groomer.
Brushing – Due to the nature of the coat, brushing is recommended to aid in preventing mats. You will need a quality metal tooth comb and a slicker brush.
Health Concerns
Eye Health – Quality breeding aids in making sure that any genetic diseases are not present when breeding occurs. This includes checking for Type A PRA eye disease. Whether you choose a miniature schnauzer from us or another breeder be sure to check the eye tests are clear.
Pancreatitis – Schnauzers are predisposed to developing pancreatitis a condition in which the consumption of fatty foods causes the pancreas to become inflamed when left untreated is fatal. Reoccuring pancreatitis is controlled with a special diet. However in general a good quality diet that is low fat and not sneaky scraps from the table will mean the chances of your schnauzer developing pancreatitis. See Nutrition for more info
