How does the Guardian Home Program work

A breeding dog is sold at a discounted price and placed in the care of a permanent local guardian family. Ownership of the dog is transferred to the guardian family and a strict breeding contract is signed giving Beards n Brows complete breeding rights.  When the dog is ready to breed, they come back to us for whelping and to raise their litter.

We believe that our breeding dogs deserve to live in a family environment where they are a valued member of the family and receive the love, exercise, stimulation and socialisation they need to be happy pets and fantastic parents!

Once the dog retires from breeding, they are desexed the breeding contract is terminated and the dog will live the rest of their life with their guardian family.

Who qualifies to be a Guardian Home?

There are several requirements we look for in a Guardian Home.

  • Residents must live within the Ipswich area.
  • We feel homeownership is best suited for the program.
  • We require fencing to both the back and front yard to provide a safe home environment.
  • Experience in owning a dog, knowledge of schnauzers if possible and some experience in raising a puppy.
  • A lifestyle that permits the dog to have regular, quality companionship and flexibility to allow for breeding events.
  • Be willing to make the dog an indoor member of the family, including sleeping inside at night and never placing the dog in a kennel or boarding facility.
  • You will be required to feed a diet and approved by Beards n Brows.
  • Must be willing to provide proper prenatal care and environment for pregnant dogs.
  • Willing to provide proper exercise, socialisation, and training for the dog
  • Provide regular  grooming for the dog possibly every 6 weeks
  • You must be willing to have a dog that will be needed for breeding.
    • For a female dog, this requires having her stay with us for breeding (usually a few days) and then returned to us for whelping and raising the puppies for a minimum of 8 weeks. Females usually have 2-3 litters, and no more than 4.
    • For males, this involves a willingness to bring the dog for breedings as needed. We will provide you with ample time and keep you well informed of our breeding schedule.
  • Be willing to allow us to visit your home and the dog and to allow the dog to stay with us a few times a year to ensure she or he gets to know us and to remain comfortable with us.  One of the benefits of this is you will be able to take off on a weekend getaway and won’t have to worry about a dog sitter, as we can take care of your dog for you.
  • You must be willing to communicate with us about the dog, and other related items.
  • Above all spoil your mini schnauzer as they deserve it 😊
